Our Week 3 meet last Saturday was another brilliant morning on the track, fabulous running conditions and lots of PBs! A huge thanks to everyone who answered our call for track helpers - we were happily inundated with offers for help! Thanks also to all our set-up and pack-up helpers.
Club records FIVE Club records were broken last Saturday - special mention to Ella H in Under 11 girls who broke two records in the morning - 1100m Walk and the 80 metre hurdles. Mitchell D (under 11 boys) also broke the 80m hurdles record and Cooper Jenner broke his own record on hurdles for 14 boys. Huge jumping from Chloe K in the 13 Girls on Triple with a jump of 10.08 to break the previous record by 13cm! Program This week's program is now available. Under 10 Girls and Boys, Senior Girls and 13/14 Girls are all on HIGH JUMP. These are all big groups and we will have shades up at the High Jump areas given the forecast hot weather. Parents from these groups - we'd love some set up help with mats and shades! Under 9s are on 400m for the first time and Under 11 Boys will be on Triple for the first time. We've allowed extra time for the 11 Boys to practice technique before measured jumps. Given the weather forecast we'd like to get all events started on time this week. Second session events should commence by 9.45am - particularly if you are on a field event please start by 9.45am to avoid holding up other groups later in the program. Late arrivals can meet groups at the event area. This week's Duty Roster Roster reminders have been sent to those families who are on roster this week. We have the following gaps on set-up and track helpers for the second session - Set-up person - Senior throws (8.45am) Track officials for Senior session in the following roles: Straight track disc person Straight track Starter Round track recorder Hurdles track recorder If you can help please email us at enquiries@gunlac.org.au. PB ribbons Our fabulous athletes have already broken 381 PBs this season! We're excited that we have 1 athlete already on 5 PBs who will get their Blue ribbon this week. There are also many other athletes very close to their first ribbon. This means potentially a busy week next week for our ribbon writers! For new families, we reward Personal Bests with PB ribbons to emphasise improvement over the season. PB ribbon levels for Under 7-17 athletes are: Blue - 5 PBs, Red - 10 PBs, Green - 15 PBs and Gold - 20 PBs. For Under 6 athletes the levels are: Blue - 2 PBs, Red - 5 PBs, Green - 10 Pbs, Gold - 15 PBs. Relay carnival Families would have received an email from Little Athletics ACT about the up-coming relay carnival which is on Saturday 12th December. This year due to COVID there will only be track relays at the carnival and there will be set sessions for age groups. We will be emailing families soon with specific details about the carnival. With the relay carnival on December 12th we will have a Friday twilight meet on Friday 11th December.

Thursday training this week at Amaroo will be HURDLES for Under 7-10s, plus DISCUS. Under 11 and older will do Javelin and Discus.
Training starts at 5.15pm, no need to register just come along for some fun and training, get ready for Saturday competition! We had perfect weather for our meet on Saturday - lots of brilliant PBs on the 100 metres and 200 metres, the tracks were super fast! Well done to our Under 9s on completing their first 800m you all did an amazing job. Also great job to our Under 8s with their first hurdles races - they seemed to enjoy it! A big thank you to all our set-up and pack-up helpers, canteen helpers and track officials.
Two Club Records were broken in week 2, both in the 400 metres - Ethan C (under 11) and Jaime B (under 16). Both Ethan and Jaime broke multiple records last season and they are starting off season 2020-21 in great form again! Congratulations also to Cooper Jenner who broke the U14 Hurdles record in Week 1. This week's program The program for this Saturday is now available. A few things to note:
Reminders for this week's roster have been sent out. We will need extra help in the following areas:
Thursday Training Thursday Training this week will be HIGH JUMP - both scissors (U9-10) and flop technique (U11 +). These are always really useful sessions for athletes early in the season to learn and practice good technique. Under 7s and 8s will be doing throws and some sprints and games with our junior coaches. Training starts at 5.15pm Thursdays at Amaroo oval. Equipment Officers NEEDED!!! Our season is well underway but we are still keen to get one or two people as equipment and grounds officers. The role is essentially to manage our equipment, keeping a record of stock, ordering new equipment as needed and communicating any grounds issues to the ACT government. This role is NOT to do the whole set up and pack up every week, though often equipment people will help coordinate what gear goes out and will be available to check any gear which needs replacing. Currently this role is being covered by other Committee members who are already very busy so we would love someone to come in and take it on! If you are interested or have questions email us at enquiries@gunlac.org.au. It was fantastic to finally start our season last Saturday! Many thanks to all our helpers, Age Group managers and officials who made it happen. Also a huge thank you to our Junior Coaches who were fabulous.
This weekend the forecast is looking good for another great meet at Amaroo. Program This week's program is now available. A few things to note - Under 11s are on HIGH JUMP but as this is their first session on the flop technique we will run this as a technique session to teach the athletes correct, safe flop technique. The advantage of doing this rather than a measured session is all the athletes can practice the skill multiple times and get confidence. Under 11 age group managers will be contacted directly about this session. Under 9s are on 800 metres for the first time (new event for them) and therefore will have four events in total. They will have five in other weeks with the exception of High Jump weeks. Long Jumps Update We are currently not using Long Jump Pits 5 and 6 while we wait for the ACT Government to install new run-ups. This was an upgrade that was due to be done before the start of the season but has been delayed due to rain. We are hoping this will be done next week. At the moment the Committee does not believe the pits are safe to use due to the take off mats being overgrown. This week Under 10 boys have been moved to pit 1 and 2 to avoid line ups on other pits. Registration numbers This Saturday we'd love to see as many athletes as possible with their 2020-21 registration numbers on their shirts. Please make sure you take off last year's numbers. Visible numbers on shirts makes track recording much quicker and more accurate, and ultimately gets our meets finished faster! Online results All results for registered athletes are available online via ResultsHQ. If you do not have your log-in you can email us to get a reset. Track helpers - Junior Session This week Under 7s and Under 6s are only Straight track only, with Under 8s on hurdles and round track. At the moment we don't have any parents rostered on for hurdles and round track - and are asking Under 8 parents to help out as these are your athlete's events (we will run one track at a time). If you can help please email us at enquiries@gunlac.org.au. Track helpers - Senior session We currently need one additional helper on hurdles and one on round track for the Under 9-17 session. If you can help please email us at enquiries@gunlac.org.au. Pack-up - please stay to help! Last Saturday we had some brilliant pack-up helpers from two families but other rostered parents did not stay to help pack up. We appreciate all helpers, please if you are rostered on just 30 minutes of assistance makes a big difference. Often while events are still going there are some areas which can start to be packed up. If you are not sure ask a Committee member in the red shirt. So this week its Take 3 for the start of our season - thankfully the forecast is finally looking good for us and we are confident that we can finally start our season on Saturday! CHANGES TO SEASON DATES The GUNLAC Committee has made the decision to make-up these two washed out rounds by adding two meets to our calendar. With the later start to the season due to COVID (winter sports going later), our season was already somewhat shorter than previous years, therefore we would like to make up these 2 lost weekends. The additional weekends are: Saturday 19th December 2020 Saturday 6th March 2021 We understand that these dates are close to holidays however we are not able to extend our season beyond March 17th 2021 due to ACT Government grounds maintenance scheduled. DUTY ROSTER The Duty Roster for week 1 wash out has now been reallocated to Saturday 19th December, and the week 2 roster has been reallocated to Saturday March 6th 2021. If any families need to swap these dates please email us at enquiries@gunlac.org.au. The full roster is available on our Duty Roster page. PROGRAM This week's program is now available. Some age groups have a shorter program than what they will normally have just to allow more time for age group managers and athletes to get into a routine. Older age groups will have 5 events. This year we will alternate hurdles - even weeks will be 60 metre hurdles for 8, 9 and 10 years age groups. Odd weeks will be 80 and 90 metre hurdles for Under 11 and older. We will run the 1500m and walks this weekend. These are open to Under 9s and older for walks and Under 11 and older for the 1500m run. If you wish to compete in these events please meet track officials at the round track tent by 9.30am. Arrive warmed-up and ready to race. TRAINING Weather permitting training will be on tomorrow (Thursday November 5th) from 5.15pm. We will be running long jump for all ages and triple jump for Under 11s and older. REGISTRATION PACK PICK-UP OPPORTUNITY If training goes ahead tomorrow (Thursday November 5th) we will also be open for registration pack pick-up 5.15pm-6.30pm. If you haven't picked-up yet this is a good opportunity to get your number early and avoid lining up on Saturday morning. If you can't make it tomorrow the registration desk will be open from 7.45am Saturday morning. Remember to bring pins to attached your number! COVID SAFETY REMINDERS A reminder to all families that it is everyone's responsibility to follow social distancing and hygiene practices, as set out in the GUNLAC COVID plan, and provided in posters at the oval and in flyers in age group folders. Please do not attend our meets if you are unwell. Age group managers and volunteers are asked to follow the guidelines to clean all hands and equipment prior to each event. Volunteers helping age group managers are asked to wear a volunteer sticker (provided in age group folders). This allows us to identify who are officials at the meet and who are spectators. Track officials and age group managers will be provided with vests to wear. GUNLAC has signed up for the Check-in CBA app and we encourage our parents to use this when attending our meets. QR codes will posted at the oval. |
