INFORMATION FOR PARENTS AND ATHLETES ATTENDING THE RELAY CARNIVAL
WHEN: SATURDAY 16 DECEMBER WHERE: WODEN PARK ATHLETICS CENTRE - Corner of Kitchener and Ainsworth Streets Phillip. Park in the CIT car park at 160 Ainsworth Street, Phillip. It is then only a short walk to the track.
TIME: All GUNLAC athletes U6-U8 need to be at the Woden track by 8.30am (First events will be called at 8.45am). All GUNLAC athletes U9 and above need to be at the Woden track by 9.30am(events will not start before 10.00am). Please look out for the GUNLAC shades and banners. On arrival please have your name marked off the GUNLAC attendees list.
FIELD EVENTS: For field event relays athletes must compete in their own age group. In long jump, shot put and discus events each athlete will be allowed two trials only. In high jump, an athleteshall be eliminated after recording two (2) consecutive failed attempts and the bar will rise in increments of 5cm only. The performance of the two top competitors from each centre will be added together to determine the overall team placing. GUNLAC TEAMS A list of current GUNLAC entries/teams can be found on the link above. Teams can be changed on the day if necessary, and the order listed is not the necessarily running order (athletes can choose this). IF YOU NOW ARE NOT ABLE TO ATTEND PLEASE LET US KNOW ASAP BY EMAIL TO firstname.lastname@example.org For track events, where we do not currently have a GUNLAC team of 4 athletes or have extra, we will firstly try and have athletes run up an age group to make a GUNLAC team (but please note, U6/U7/U8 athletes cannot compete in the 4x100m circular relay or the medley relay). For some teams we have suggested replacements from other age groups. Alternatively, we will form composite teams with athletes from other ACT clubs on the day. On the list where there is ‘composite’ listed this is where we try and combine with other centres. For younger age groups it is useful for a parent to be responsible for each team to make sure they get to their events when called etc.
GUNLAC PARENT ROSTER: Parents/carers of all athletes attending ACT carnivals are expected to assist and will be rostered on to help with official duties as required. At the Carnival GUNLAC is responsible for Long Jump, Shot Put and High Jump (one area each). We have set up a roster for each of these areas based on age groups (rather than times). Please note which age groups you are responsible for and be ready to assist when that age group is called to their event. Events run in the order listed in the program, we can't give exact times in our roster as the times will depend on how long each age group takes to finish. Please check the GUNLAC parent roster to see where your help is required on Saturday - see link above. If you are listed in RED as a reserve, please check in with the Chief at the event to see if you are needed or not. Under 6 parents have not been included in the roster (unless they also have older athletes competing). UNIFORM: Athletes must wear their GUNLAC uniform (i.e. GUNLAC t-shirt/singlet/crop top + black shorts) with registration number, age patch and Coles patch clearly visible. We will have Coles patches at the tent on Saturday, SPIKES: spikes can only be worn by athletes U9 and up for laned events, long jump and high jump. Please note that for the Swedish medley relay (U11 and up – 100m, 300m, 200m 400m) only the 100m will be run in lanes and only athletes running this leg are permitted to wear spikes.
