Any Gungahlin Athletics Club athlete, with the exception of Adult Community members, who will be 10+ years old by 31st December this year, are eligible to compete in the Summer and Winter Series Competitions run by Capital Athletics.
This is known as senior athletics and is an opportunity for athletes to progress their athletics, in particular to focus on specific events they enjoy. Athletes get the chance to compete on a synthetic track at Woden or the AIS and will be competing against athletes from across the ACT and nearby NSW towns. The Capital Athletics website has all the information you need on the upcoming events such as Summer/Winter Series and Competitions Calendar, including the event grid which sets out which events are on offer on each weekend, you generally need to register to enter each of these meets separately. To participate in these events you must be registered with a club and there is a small additional fee, unless you have paid for the All Access Competition Membership, which you pay to Capital Athletics when you register online. Athletes must wear their Gungahlin Athletics Club uniform consisting of a Gungahlin Athletics Club top and black bottoms when competing. Most of the local events are held at either the Woden Athletics Track or the Australian Institute of Sport. As these events are run by Capital Athletics there will not always be Gungahlin Athletics Club officials/athletes at these events. Generally when you arrive you should head to the office to sign in the athlete/s for every event they are registered in - allow at least 30 minutes before the first event. If it's your first time attending feel free to reach out to a Committee member who can chat to you about how things work and connect you with other members who regularly attend. |
