Gungahlin Athletics Club is an Athletics Club based in Gungahlin that has been operating since 2003. Our club is run solely by volunteers and we are affiliated with Capital Athletics.  In 2024-25 season we introduced Tiny Tots and in the 2025-26 season we're expanding the Tiny Tots program and opening new Adult memberships as well.

During our season (October-March), Athletics meets and training sessions are run at the Amaroo Playing Fields in the ACT on Saturday mornings for all ages:
  • Tiny Tots (age 3-5);
  • Little/Junior Athletics program (ages 5-17) and
  • Athletics for Adults (ages 17+)

Tiny Tots (Ages 3-5)
Our Tiny Tots program uses a fun, play-based approach to help children aged 3-5 develop essential skills for life and sport. With a focus on running, jumping, and throwing, this modified athletics program supports physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development in an enjoyable and engaging environment.

Parents and guardians play an active role in each session, making it a hands-on experience shared with your little athlete.  You can expect to be engaged in activities such as, floating a parachute, being part of an animal relay or hopping in and out of hoops.

Little/Junior Athletics (Ages 5-17)
Little Athletics is an Australian modified athletics program for children up to 17 years of age. Offering a wide range of events from running, jumping, throwing and walking, events are modified to suit the age, development stage and ability of the child. Little Athletics is the perfect way to improve your running technique for the AFL and soccer season, get a better leap for netball or start your green & gold athletics journey!

The Little Athletics summer season runs from early October to mid-March each year. Gungahlin Athletics Club runs weekly meets every Saturday morning during the season at Amaroo Playing Fields, catering for athletes aged 3 - 17yo.

The focus of Little Athletics is on participation and learning the fundamental movements of running, jumping, throwing and walking. This is done through friendly competition in a well-run, safe and enjoyable environment. There is an event for everyone, and athletes have the chance to try them all out. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join, no matter their ability, Athletes stay with their age group for the course of the program and their age group manager keeps the group together and takes athletes around the oval to their events for the day.

As athletes get older, more events become available to try such as triple jump, high jump and javelin which are not suitable for younger age groups.

Athletics for Adults (Ages 17+)

Our club offers two types of membership for our adult athletes - either a community membership or a competitive membership.

The Adult Community membership is open to athletes aged 17 and above, it is perfect for those who prefer to train and compete at the local club level. Designed to be inclusive and welcoming, it’s a great option for newcomers to the sport, as well as for seasoned athletes who want to stay active, chase personal bests, and enjoy the social side of athletics without the pressure of competition.  Athletes may decide to participate in all of the events or just those they specialise in eg, throws or running.  This membership will not include access to events held by Capital Athletics.

Our
Adult Competitive Membership provides full access to all Capital Athletics events, including Summer & Winter Athletics Meets, Capital Athletics Championship events, Athletics Australia National Championships, Cross Country, and RunACT. You can also attend our local club meets. This option is ideal for athletes aiming to compete at the local level against members from other clubs and/or at national levels.
