CAPITAL ATHLETICS ACT RELAY CARNIVAL

COLES ACT RELAY CARNIVAL 2025-26

Registrations are now closed for the 2025-26 Coles ACT Relay Carnival!

The Relay Carnival is a fun event that all age groups (from U6+) can take part in.

Medals will be awarded to winning teams (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and Gungahlin earns points for each athlete's participation that go towards a Club award at the meet.

When: Sunday, 23rd November 2025
Where: Woden Athletics Track, Ainsworth Street, Phillip

Who: The carnival is open to all registered athletes U6+
Cost: $10- per athlete

Team Size: 4 athletes per team

EVENT HANDBOOK
Please make yourself familiar with the Capital Athletics Event Handbook which outlines the rules before attending.

EVENT TIMETABLE
The timetable will be run in three blocks with events not to start before the following times:
       U6-8 – Arrive 8am, first call 8.15, start 8.30am
       U9-12 - Arrive 10.15am, Lane explanation 10.25am, first call 10.30, start 10.45am
       U13-17 and Adults  - Arrive 1.30pm, Lane explanation 1.40pm , first call 1.45pm, start 2.00pm

EVENTS
There are 4 types of relay that athletes can compete in, depending on their Age Group:
  • Slalom relay is where athletes weave between 10 posts/cones that are placed 3m apart.  They will run an outward leg, turn and complete an inward leg before passing the baton to the next athlete.
  • Shuttle relay is where athletes line up opposite one another eg, 2 at each end. The runners run from one end to the other passing the baton.
  • Circular relay is where athletes run the same distance (eg, 100m) around the round track, passing the baton at the end of each leg.
  • Swedish medley relay is where athletes run a total of 1000m undertaken in different lengths around the round track, passing the baton at the end of each leg. The legs are run in the following order: 100m, 300m, 200m, 400m.

Under 6-8: 4 x 50m shuttle relay, 4 x 100m shuttle relay, slalom relay (4/team)
Under 9-10: 4 x 70m shuttle relay, 4 x 100m circular relay, 4 x 200m circular relay
Under 11-17: 4 x 100m circular relay, 4 x 200m circular relay, 4 x  Swedish medley relay (100m, 300m, 200m, 400m)
Open: 4 x 100m circular relay, 4 x 400m circular relay,4 x  Swedish medley relay (100m, 300m, 200m, 400m)
Under 15-17 mix :  Teams can be made up of athletes from U15, U16 or U17 age groups. U15-17 Swedish medley relay will be a mixed gender event (U15-17B/G,  minimum of 1 boy/maximum of 2 boys).

EVENT FEE AND REGISTRATION
The Entry Fee is $10- per athlete. All athletes wanting to compete must register and pay online by Monday, 17th November. There will be no late entries or any entries allowed on the day.

UNIFORM
All athletes MUST wear their Gungahlin Uniform (Gungahlin red/white athletics top  & black bottoms (shorts/pants)) with their chest number and age patch clearly visible. All sponsorship must be clearly visible on the chest number and age patch. If you plan to register for the Relay Carnival but do not have a uniform, please arrange to purchase one.

RELAY TEAMS
If we do not have the correct number of athletes registered in an age group to form full relay teams, the names of athletes not assigned to teams will form composite teams with other clubs. Athletes competing in composite teams will still be receiving points for Gungahlin.

If you register for the Relay Carnival but are unable to attend for any reason, please let us know ASAP.

PARENTAL ASSISTANCE
All Clubs are expected to provide officials for the Relay Carnival. If your child is attending the Carnival, you may be rostered on to assist. 

​All families attending Athletics carnivals during the season should be prepared to assist.

PARKING
Parking at the venue is limited but there are some car parks within a short walk along Ainsworth Street.
