[Details below are from last years carnival, information will be updated closer to the event] A great fun day for our youngest competing athletes. We know there are a lot of new members in these age groups, but please don’t be scared to join in the fun. No experience is necessary!

BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME
Allow enough time to get a park - parking will get busy.
Make sure your athlete/s is wearing theirGUNLAC uniform - black shorts/pants; GUNLAC top; Age Patch and Registration number. Note: The Age Patch and Registration number should be showing the sponsorship details.
Sunscreen and Hats - make sure you have sun protection for yourselves and your athlete/s.
You may like to consider bringing a picnic rug and/or chairs to sit on; water and food. There will be a small GUNLAC tent.
AT THE CHALLENGE
When you arrive please check in at the GUNLAC tent. There will be GUNLAC committee members in attendance to help guide you through the process/es.
Make sure athletes are near the GUNLAC tent before their event starts.
UNIFORM All athletes MUST wear theirGUNLAC Uniform (GUNLAC top & black bottoms (shorts/pants)) with their chest number and age patch clearly visible. All sponsorship must be clearly visible on the chest number and age patch.
EVENTS The kids compete in teams of five/six and compete in seven events on the day. Capital Athletics will put the teams together after the entries have closed. Teams can be boys, girls or mixed but they will all compete against each other in the same events.
Hurdles Relay – the kids do a hurdles race and run back down the side of the hurdles and tag their team mates.
Long Jump Challenge – kids do a standing jump for distance and we add up all their distances to get a team score.
Throw for Target (Vortex) – kids throw a vortex and aim to get it into some baskets for points, they get points depending on how close they get to the baskets
Discus bowling – they roll a discus into a scoring zone for maximum points
Throw for distance (Shot) – they throw a soft shot put ball into a scoring zone for points
Slalom Run – running in and out of poles, zig zagging and tagging their team mates – a relay.
Sprint Combination Run – the final event of each session is a relay where one kid runs 200m and the other four run 100m on the round track.
PARENTAL ASSISTANCE There will be a Parent Roster for the day. If your name is not on the roster you should still be prepared to help out on the day if there are unexpected absences.
