VOLUNTEER WITH US

HOW YOU CAN VOLUNTEER

Gungahlin Geckos is proudly run entirely by volunteers, and we couldn’t do it without the support of our amazing community. Whether you can lend a hand at meets, help behind the scenes, or support our coaching team, there's a role to suit everyone. Volunteering is a fun, rewarding way to get involved, meet new people, and help create a great experience for all our athletes!

As well as our Volunteer Roles we ask everyone to lend a hand to ensure our meets run smoothly - this would involve activities such as, raking the long jump pits after an athlete jumps, helping an Age Group Manager to measure a throw and returning throws equipment (discus, shotput etc).  Have a read of this How to Help with Little Athletics to get a better idea of what's involved.

volunteer roles

Duty Roster - as a condition of registration, all adults are expected to undertake a roster duty at least 4 times during the season.  These roles ensure we can run our meets and include: Track; Set Up/Pack Up; and helping with the Canteen or BBQ.

Age Group Managers - Age Group Managers are responsible for a group of athletes for a specific age and gender at each meet (for example Under 8 Girls). They move the group around the venue to events as outlined in the program, record results and help the athletes have an enjoyable day!

Committee member - running a successful club is no easy feat - from setting up registrations, selling uniforms, organising the program,  entering field results, ordering equipment, communicating with members, tracking the finances, stocking the canteen and much more.  We're sure to have something that suits.  Our current  Committee Members  can help you find a great role.

Officials - Our Club needs to provide Officials at the Capital Athletics meets.  This is a great way to become more involved with Athletics within the ACT and help our athletes at the competitive meets.
Get in touch with Capital Athletics to find out when they are running their next Officials training, we will often notify members of this training too, and don't forget to let the Club know if you become qualified!

First Aid Officer - if you have a first aid certificate and don't mind being on call during a meet this role could be a great fit for you.  Let the Committee know if this sounds like you.

Coaches - our Club has several qualified coaches who give advice at our meets and run training sessions.  They  are supported by our Junior Coaches who assist Age Group Managers during the Junior Athletics session.  If you are interested in becoming a coach get in touch with our Coaching Coordinator or enquire with the committee.

Carnival Coordinator - When we attend the Capital Athletics carnivals it's important to have a Coordinator who can help direct volunteers and athletes.  This person would set up the Gungahlin Athletics Club tent and be a first point of contact for Club members.  Let the Committee know if this sounds like you.
