Any athlete born 2008 (LA’s U12) and earlier are eligible to compete on Saturday afternoon in Summer Series Competition run by Athletics ACT. This is known as senior athletics and is an opportunity for athletes to progress their athletics, in particular to focus on specific events they enjoy. The Athletics ACT website has all the information you need on the Summer Series, including the event grid which sets out which events are on offer on each weekend, how to register and how to enter meets.
To participate athletes need to join a senior athletics club. As a dual registered athlete you only need to pay the club fee to register, which for the North Canberra Gungahlin Athletics Club is $25 (NCGA are the Senior Club affiliated with GUNLAC). There are no additional association fees as you are a registered Little Athletics athlete. There is a fee for each event you enter which you pay when you enter online ($9.20 per event).
The first Summer Series competition is October 12th at Woden Athletics Track, with the following weekend (October 19th) being the Come and Try day. The full summer calendar can be found here.
To help new athletes get used to how these meets work Little Athletics ACT will be facilitating a “Welcome Tent”. This will give all dual athletes, particularly the newcomers a reference point to ask any questions or be offered any support that they might need across their first foray into Summer Series. This tent will be in place between the 400m start line and the entry gate, on the opposite side of the wooden bleachers to the Athlete Check in Tent.
IMPORTANT CHANGES TO UNIFORM AND REGISTRATION NUMBERS FOR 2019-20 Athletics ACT have introduced a compulsory uniform this season which means new athletes will need to purchase a shirt or crop top (other than for come and try events).
This season Dual athletes will have ONE registration number for Little Athletics and Senior Athletics (where in previous years different numbers were issued). This change means athletes will need to be able to move their bib numbers from their Little Athletics uniform to their Senior uniform when competing. We recommend not sewing on the number on your shirt or crop top so this can be done more easily.
