Thursday Training for November 21st has been cancelled due to the forecast temperature of 39 degrees. We do not conduct any training above forecast 35 degrees
Our program for this Saturday 23rd November is now available on the Club Documents. This week we have a few different things on offer - our Under 9s will be doing High Jump Scissor Skills activities on the scissor mats and Under 8s will be doing Turbo Javelin as a measured event for the first time. We will also have senior hurdles so fingers crossed for a nice calm morning, not too windy!
The ACT Little Athletics Relay Carnival will be held on Saturday 14th December 2019. Our relay carnival page has all the info you need on the carnival including links to register for the carnival and the event flyer.

Training commences this Thursday at 5.15pm Amaroo Oval. Training is FREE and is available to all athletes Under 7 and older. The sessions are event focused - each week our coaches focus on technique of a different event. The training schedule for the first 3 weeks of the season is now available on our Training Page. This week younger athletes will do long jump with older athletes on Javelin. No need to pre-register for training.
Please note - parents MUST stay with their children at training. Children must be well behaved and respectful to coaches at all times. All our coaches are volunteers - we are very thankful for the time they dedicate to helping our athletes improve their skills.
The week 1 program is now available on our Club Documents page. For week 1 all age groups do one event fewer than normal, just to allow more time for the meet to get started and for new parents and athletes to get accustomed to how a meet is run. From Week 2 we will run 5 events for all age groups other than Under 6 and Under 7 who will normally do four events.
There are some important changes to events and our program this season:
Hurdles changes for Under 11 and Under 12
Under 11 and Under 12 age groups will now do 80 metres hurdles (previously they did 60 metres). The hurdle heights remain the same.
To allow for this change this season we will run 60 metres for Under 8, 9 and 10s on alternate weeks to the 80 metres and 90 metres events. This means that where previously younger age groups competed in hurdles each week this year they will have hurdles on their program every second week.
Under 8 Skills Sessions
A further change this season to the program is the introduction of some skills sessions for our Under 8 age group. We will run sessions on hurdles technique, scissor high jump over the flexibar and Turbo Javelin every second week in the program (commencing in week 2).
All of these sessions will focus on fun and learning technique and wont be measured or recorded for results. They will be guided by our club coaches and held on the top oval. During the season we will also have some turbo javelin sessions for Under 9s. The aim of these sessions is to help our younger athletes learn good skills and technique for when they compete in these events in the future.
Discus weight changes
Under 11 age groups this year will throw the 500g discus, this is a change from last season when they were throwing the 750g discus. Its important for all Age Group Managers and parent helpers to check the specifics for field events to ensure athletes are throwing the correct weight.
All GUNLAC athletes Under 12s and older can choose to participate in Senior Athletics as a dual registered athlete. Check out all the details on our Dual Registration page.
We are holding a Come and Try day on Sunday October 12th, 10am-12pm at Amaroo oval. On the day we will have the registration desk set up with our registration team taking questions, helping out with online registrations and selling uniforms. We will have activities set up on the oval for all ages, and our coaches available to talk to parents and athletes about events. We will also have the canteen open for snacks and drinks! No cost to come along and everyone welcome!
If you have already registered your pack will be ready to pick up. We will also have registration pack pick up on Sunday October 13th 1pm-3pm at Amaroo Oval.
