GUNLAC Parent SURVEY - TEll us your views on SEASON 2020-21

18/8/2020

Planning for the 2020-21 athletics season has begun, however this will be a very different season with the on-going COVID-19 situation. While we are not entirely sure what government restrictions for community sport will be in place by October, we do need to assume some level of social distancing and limits on public gatherings will be in place.
The format for our Saturday morning meets at Amaroo will need to change to take into account the current COVID requirements (which limit numbers of persons attending community sport). The GUNLAC Committee is considering options for separating age groups into 3 sessions with different start and finish times.

There are two options being considered by the Committee, as listed below. We would appreciate parent input into this decision and have set up a short survey for parents to complete.

Option 1
Mini Geckos - Under 6&7 Boys and Girls - THURSDAY OR FRIDAY evening, approx start time 5.15pm - 1 hour session
Junior Geckos - Under 8,9 & 10 Boys and Girls - SATURDAY 8.30am - 9.45am
Senior Geckos - Under 11-17 Boys and Girls - SATURDAY 10am-11.15am
(1500m and Walks from 9.45am)

Option 2
Mini Geckos - Under 6&7 Boys and Girls - SATURDAY 8.30am - 9.30am
Junior Geckos - Under 8,9 & 10 Boys and Girls - SATURDAY 9.45am - 11am
Senior Geckos - Under 11-17 Boys and Girls - SATURDAY 11.15am - 12.30pm
(1500m and Walks from 11am)
For both options finish times are estimated. By separating the age groups we expect that there will be less waiting time to complete events compared to when we have all age groups rotating around the oval completing their events at the same time (in particular less congestion on straight and round track).
A few points to note:
  • Under Option 1 the mini Geckos session would likely start after 5.15pm, this would allow parents with work commitments to get to the oval and Committee members and volunteers time to set up. Also in summer it may be preferable to avoid the hotter temperatures by starting closer to  5.30pm.
  • Option 2 would likely require a shorter program for older athletes particularly during High Jump program weeks and on very hot days.
  • We would operate a full canteen on Saturday mornings with the Friday session including Fruit and cold treats for the Mini geckos.

All 2019-20 parents have been emailed a survey link to provide views on these options - if you did not receive the email contact us at [email protected] for the link (survey only option to GUNLAC parents).

GUNLAC AGM - THIS SUNDAY!

6/8/2020

The Gungahlin Little Athletics Centre 2020 Annual General Meeting will be held at Forde Community Centre from 3.30pm Sunday August 9, 2020.

The AGM is being held later than usual due to Coronavirus restrictions that were in place. With restrictions easing we are now able to proceed with the AGM in person as usual. The Forde Community Centre’s hall will provide sufficient space to socially distance as required at this time.

All Committee positions will be made vacant and will need to be filled to ensure a successful 2020/21 Little Athletics season. We would love to have some new families join the GUNLAC Committee for the 2020/21 season!
A list of Committee roles and Committee support roles can be downloaded here, with a description of each role included. If you are interested in nominating for one of these roles and have any questions about them please email [email protected].

Please come along to the AGM to help plan the upcoming GUNLAC season and ensure it is a success-all welcome!
