This week's program is available on the Club Documents page. It has been updated to add to allow A and B groups for some larger age groups.
This week we are running 800, 200 and 400 metre races so it will be a busy time on the round track. The program schedules all 200s before the start of the 400s, Age managers and parents - note the order of events in the program as this helps the track events run smoothly. Should a great morning of athletics!

Our training page has been updated with session information for this Thursday and next Thursday. This week we will be running hurdles and long jump, with sessions available for both events for Under 8s and older. Under 7s will have a special beginner long jump session. Next week we will be running triple jump and throws, as well as sprints for the younger athletes. Training is held at Amaroo Oval 5.15pm Thursdays.
If you have any questions or can help out in any way with training, email our Coaching coordinator Simone Jordan - coachingcoord@gunlac.org.au Its currently dry at the oval and the meet is going ahead - a very fresh breeze so rug up for the conditions.
Based on current registration numbers we've made some adjustments to the Week 2 program for tomorrow, primarily to add a second group for U11 Girls. Check out the updated version on the Club Documents page. Events remain the same but the event order for several age groups has changed.
Some important additions to the GUNLAC website added today:
With the current forecast not looking that great for Saturday, its timely to update our new and return families on our processes for bad weather.
In the event of rain on Saturdays, we will inform our families of a meet cancellation as early as possible that morning. We make every effort to run our meets, and therefore will normally leave the decision to cancel til around 8am Saturday morning (except in the event that ACT grounds are closed earlier than this time). In some cases if the grounds are wet but the rain easing we will run our meet but with a modified program to ensure safety of athletes - this normally means we would not run high jump or hurdles, where the risk of injury is greatest. We may be forced to cancel a meet if the grounds have received heavy rain on the Friday before a meet if the grounds become to wet to run on. We will let people know of any cancellations via Facebook and on our website. Make sure you like our Facebook page to get all notifications. Fingers crossed the rain stays away for this week! Our first training session for the season is this Thursday at 5.15pm. Our new coaching coordinator Simone Jordan will be running the session along with Matt Wecker, which is a coach from the Senior Athletics Club North Canberra Gungahlin Athletics. For our first session Matt will be taking athletes Under 9 and older for High Jump, with junior athletes focusing on Shot Put and Discus (following warm-up). Check out all the details on our Training page on this website.
We are currently looking for more parent help for our training sessions - if you are able to help you can contact Simone by email or speak to her on Thursday afternoon. Parents - you must stay with your athlete during practice, as we are not covered by insurance to coach without a responsible adult present. The GUNLAC Handbook for this season is now available. This season's handbook includes all details of our award winners and record breakers from Season 2015-16, as well as all the information you need for the coming season. There's important information on changes to ACT Little Athletics Carnivals for this season, changes to high jump for younger athletes, and changes to our parent roster for this season. Check it out on our Club Documents page.
Only Three sleeps until the start of the 2016-17 Season! Week 1 program is now available to view. For new families, in week 1 we run a shorter program just to allow time for everyone to get organised in their groups and provide new age managers and parents extra time at each event. We will commence with announcements at 9am. From Week 2 onwards we will run four events for Under 6s and 7s and five events for all other age groups. We will not be running a 1500m this week but will start in week 2, starting at 8.30am. ![]()
