While its getting chilly outside, its not too early to start thinking about those sunny Saturday mornings at Little Athletics!
Planning for Season 2018-19 will commence soon with our Annual General Meeting. At the meeting we will appoint our Committee and commence planning for the upcoming season.
The AGM will be held at the Gungahlin Community Centre (Ernest Cavanagh street, Gungahlin) on WEDNESDAY 20th JUNE 2018 at 7.30pm.
Further details on the meeting will be posted in the coming weeks - we would love to have some new faces on our Committee so if your kids love Little Athletics get involved in our club this season!
Under 11 and older athletes who are competing in High Jump this weekend at ACT Champs - we are running a special training session at the AIS Track this Thursday on High Jump (Amaroo oval is closed for the two week shutdown of all grounds). This will focus just on flop technique.
Training will commence at 5.15pm - 6.30pm and will be run by Coach Rodney.
If you are interested in attending please email Simone at firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm attendance and find out all the details. AIS does charge a track entry fee but we do have tickets available for athletes for the fee 0f $3.50 (usually casual entry is $5).
This is a great opportunity to get some final practice and technique advice - thanks to Rodney for offering his time for this session!
IMPORTANT NOTE - As the oval is closed we are not able to offer training at Amaroo this week. Apologies to those who were keen! Unfortunately we can't use the oval if TAMS closes it.
This Saturday is our final meet at Amaroo which is Presentation Day! We will be running handicap races on the straight track (the GUNLAC Gift) and will have presentations for all our athletes. We ask that all athletes come in their GUNLAC shirts for the presentation. Start time is our normal time of 9am with expected finish time approximately 10.30am. All athletes who competed in at least one meet after Christmas will receive a medal and we have many other awards to present so come along a help celebrate our 2017-18 season!
This Saturday is our final full competition meet of this season. Check out the events on the program and this week's GUNLAC news on our Club Documents Page. Don't forget to get your entries in for ACT Champs - they close NEXT TUESDAY!! No late entries.
Unfortunately due to coaches unavailability we will have to modify today's training program - we will now be running long jump and sprints for all ages.
TRAINING THURSDAY MARCH 15TH AND MARCH 22ND
We will continue to run Thursday Training for athletes preparing for ACT Champs. We would like to focus our sessions on those events athletes are most keen on practicing - if you have any requests for these sessions please email Simone at email@example.com.
This week;s GUNLAC News is now available on the Club Documents Page! Check out whats happening around the club this week.
The Program for this coming Saturday is now available on the Club Documents page. We have two more competition meets this season before our Presentation day on Saturday March 17th.
The training schedule has now been updated for the next two Thursdays - March 1st and March 8th - full details on our Training Page.
- This week we have hurdles for our older athletes (Under 11s and older) and shot put and long jump for our younger group (u7s to U10s).
- Next week we have Triple Jump for older athletes and Discus and sprints for the younger group.
Also a big thank you to our new Coach Rodney who has been doing a lot of field event coaching at our Thursday sessions and on Saturday mornings. We know how useful our athletes have been finding this extra help on technique, with lots of PBs and Records being broken recently on these field events - its greatly appreciated!!
For those athletes who are registered to attend the Multi event carnival this Sunday, the GUNLAC parent roster is now available. This roster has also been emailed directly to families. Please ensure that you check the roster and attend your rostered spot on the day. We currently do not have any reserve families so do need everyone to attend when rostered. If you are no longer planning on going to the carnival please let us know ASAP so we can make other arrangements.
Best of luck to all our athletes competing on Sunday, and also to our 15/16/17 years athletes who are also competing in the Heptathlon on Saturday afternoon.
In 2017 Little Athletics Australia announced changes to the age group structure for all Little Athletics competitions across Australia. These changes will be introduced next season (2018-19 season which starts in October 2018). We provided information to our families when this change was announced, However, it is useful to confirm now as we get closer to the end of this season, what next season's age group structure will be.
In season 2018-19 Little Athletics age groups will move to a 'calendar year' age structure, the same as is used for School Sport, That is, age groups will be based on the age an athlete is turning the year the season concludes.
For the 2018-19 season the age you turn in 2019 will determine for age group for that season. To make it less confusing, a good way to think about the age group is - the number you are turning in 2019 is the number of the age group you are assigned to (Little Athletics Australia will continue to use the 'under' terminology for age groups).
For example - Athletes turning 6 in 2019 will be the U6 Years group. Athletes turning 7 in 2019 will be in the U7 years group.
This change ONLY affects athletes who are born in the months of October, November and December. These athletes will go up two age groups, instead of one, next season.
For example - an athlete currently in the Under 12s who is born in October will compete in the 14 years group in the 2018-19 season.
For the 6 Years group there will no longer be the 18 months age range to register (where younger athletes competed for two years in this age group). To be in the 6 years group you need to be turning 6 in 2019, and there will no longer be some repeating in this age group.
We understand that this change will be unsettling for some athletes, unfortunately this is a National decision which we must follow. If any parents have questions on these changes please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
